Tony Hussain and Nilesh Malhotra outside Bollywood.jpgBollywood comes to Dundee today (20th March) when leading Indian film director Nileish Malhotra pays a flying visit to celebrate the city centre opening of Bollywood, the new restaurant concept conceived by well-known local entrepreneur Tony Hussain.

Located at 31 Albert Square, on the site of the former Pizza Express, Bollywood is a

175 seat buffet restaurant that introduces organic Indian food to the city.

Bollywood’s lush and extravagant interior, featuring a rich red carpet with velvet on the walls and bright red leather chairs, includes a live kitchen, plasma screens throughout and a specially-commissioned two-way screen displaying classic Bollywood images. And as if all that wasn’t enough, at weekends, belly dancers will put on a display for diners!

Tony Hussain, former chef, restaurateur and managing director of Dundee-based SHK property and investments, the company behind the restaurant, said, “Bollywood is offering diners in Dundee a comprehensive range of fresh food dishes from around the world, bringing together Indian, Italian and Spanish cuisine at a very reasonable price.

“The restaurant will serve delicious new mixtures of Indian and European dishes, such as chicken masala pasta, as well as a comprehensive range of healthy options and halal foods to cater for all tastes.”

All the dishes are freshly prepared on the premises, with no artificial colour added and all dishes available at the same value for money price of £6 for lunch and £12 for dinner.

And in an unprecedented move, Mr Hussain has revealed that he intends to introduce a minibus to transport customers to and from Bollywood to anywhere in Dundee from Thursdays through to Sundays. He then plans to roll out his innovative Bollywood restaurant concept throughout Scotland, working in partnership with other restaurateurs.

The opening of Bollywood has created employment for 30 staff, with specialist chefs having been sourced from India and Dubai.

Enjoying a close association with Bollywood, having introduced Scotland to the industry in 1996 when he acted as host to various Bollywood producers, Tony Hussain is currently in discussion with Bollywood director Nileish Malhotra about ‘Peace’, a film script he has written which combines a love story set within an environment of fundamentalist terrorism within the UK.

Been a few times now, really nice food, would be better if there was a few more dishes on for main course like chilli masala or bhuna

I went not long after opening. The place was all over the place and the staff were not very clued up. We were left confused on the concept of it all. Place is lovely inside and the lamb pathia is to die for.

What are these people about - opened, closed and not paying their bills...I ask you - obviously no finances to cover costs!!

Fortunately it has closed but in the usual fashion of 'Tony' Hussain not without leaving a string of bad debts and broken promises. This is not the first time that he has behaved in such a totally unacceptable manner - he brings nothing but shame to his community. Fred
